Herron High School is a public charter school located in downtown Indianapolis, providing a classical liberal arts, college preparatory education. The school's curriculum is structured around an art history timeline and emphasizes the classic art and literature of many cultures. Through an integrated curriculum and classical methodology, Herron High School believes that all students can learn to think logically, express themselves creatively, appreciate aesthetics fully, and approach any subject intelligently.

Newsweek ranks Herron High School #26 in the nation in their "America's Best High Schools" list. The school was recognized for instilling a culture of rigor in the classroom. According to the report, "Newsweek picks the best high schools in the country based on how hard school staffs work to challenge students with advanced placement college-level courses and tests."   more »

2010 English Department Summer Reading List
Why summer reading? High schools with high academic expectations encourage and promote year-round learning and the reinforcement and strengthening of reading and writing skills by instituting summer reading selections. May Wright Sewall Memorial Torches Returning
May Wright Sewall Memorial torches to relight their original Herron site - your help is needed. Through the generosity and support of the Indianapolis Museum of Art, the bronze torches honoring May Wright Sewall (1844-1920) will return to their original location to illuminate the steps of Herron High School. The torches will "relight" the spirit of this important founding woman in our cityĆ¢??s history.    more »

Summer Academe Registration form now online
Summer Academe Session 1 begins June 9 through June 25, 8:00am to 2:00pm. Session 2 begins July 21 through August, 6 8:00am to 2:00pm. Summer Honors Academe Dual Credit course runs June 7 through August 3 (Single session) Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:00am-11:50am, 3.0 GPA required    more »
